2020 Blockchain Summit Goes Online

Due to COVID-19 and safety concerns, we had to cancel the event scheduled for March 19th at Ensi linja 1, Helsinki. While we don’t yet know when we’ll be able to host physical events again, we believe that key developments in our ecosystem make events such as the Blockchain Summit Helsinki highly valuable.

This is why we will continue to bring together – virtually, this time! – the main representatives of the blockchain community from Finland and beyond to discuss this technology and its impact on our future.

So it is our pleasure to invite you to the online edition of Blockchain Summit Helsinki 2020!

The digital economy requires a secure digital identity layer. For many, blockchain technology is the best way to achieve a digital ID system that protects user privacy and gives them control over their data and, at the same time, provide businesses with reliable information in a more reliable and cost-efficient way. In the panel, current projects involving blockchain-based IDs will be discussed, especially in the light of the COVID-19 crisis, which has accelerated the process of digitalization.

Jani Heikkinen, Senior Ministerial Adviser, Ministry of Finance
Mika Huhtamäki, Deputy Managing Director, Vastuu Group
Timo Hotti, Technology Strategist, OP Financial Group

15:30-16:15 - Panel 2: Digitalization and the future of Finance
Cryptocurrencies have an anti-establishment background, but they are increasingly being researched by traditional institutions and integrated into the wider financial system. New regulations are coming not only to give a defined legal status to cryptocurrencies and virtual assets but also to ensure that they are not used for nefarious purposes, such as money laundering and terrorism financing. The recent developments in Europe, and especially Finland and Estonia, will be the topic of this panel, including AMLD5, the FATF’s Travel Rule, CBDCs, and tokenization of assets.

Anu Honkalinna, Chief Executive Officer, NordXE
Raido Saar, Board Member, Estonian Cryptocurrency Association
Sven Martinsson, Chief Executive Officer, Valega Chain Analytics
16:15-17:00 - Panel 3: Building Blockchain
Which types of blockchain-based solutions have been developed in Finland and neighboring countries so far? What are the main opportunities and challenges of creating and implementing such projects during a global health crisis? In this panel, builders from strategic industries will present their concrete experiences and projects that harness blockchain technology to increase efficiency, transparency, and trust in diverse sectors.
